Jefferson County Public Library Receives National Recognition for Excellence and Innovation
Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) recently received national recognition for innovation and excellence from Library Journal and Gale (part of Cengage Learning), in their 2010 Library of the Year award competition. Columbus Metropolitan Library, in Columbus, Ohio, was named 2010 Library of the Year, and JCPL was one of three public libraries recognized for "demonstrating the service philosophy and dedication to community that signify a Library of the Year." Special mentions were also given to Anythink-Rangeview Library District, Northglenn, Colo. and King County Library System, Issaquah, Wash.

The Library of the Year award is the most prestigious award a public library can be granted. The award is granted to a public library in the United States that best demonstrates service to the community; creativity and innovation in developing specific community programs; a dramatic increase in library usage; and/or leadership in creating programs that can be emulated by other libraries.

Lakewood Library Closed Aug. 1
The Lakewood Library will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 1 to accommodate planned upgrades to the library parking lot.

Upgrades include resurfacing the parking lot and painting new parking stripes to create additional parking spaces. Work on the parking lot will begin after 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, and the library will reopen on Monday, Aug. 2.

Evergreen Remodel Postponed

Jefferson County Invites Citizen Input
The Board of County Commissioners is offering an online version of the County's 2010 Citizen Survey. The survey takes only minutes to complete, and it will help the County understand the needs and desires of Jeffco residents. Don't miss this chance to provide feedback/input to our Commissioners and show your support of JCPL.

Research Stocks, Funds and More Online
When researching your investments, there is no substitute for accurate and up to date information. That's why the Library provides access to Standard and Poors NetAdvantage, a comprehensive resource for investors. S&P NetAdvantage provides JCPL patrons with access to reports and analysis for stocks, bonds and funds, as well as company profiles, corporation records, industry reports and much more. Detailed stock reports are updated at least once per week.

This valuable resource is available from home, work or school with an Internet-connected computer and a valid JCPL library card. To access S&P NetAdvantage, just visit our homepage at http://www.jeffcolibrary.org, click Research Tools and click Subscription Databases A-Z.

Down on the Farm
By Joyce Deming, Information Services Librarian, Golden Library
It happens every generation or so. Urban dwellers, tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city, garner their resources (especially their cash), and move to the country. Once there, they write a book about their adventures. It's a phenomena that Joel Salatin, the self-proclaimed "Christian conservative libertarian environmentalist lunatic famer" and a key player in Michael Pollan's, The Omnivore's Dilemma calls "a longing to reconnect with Grandpa's farm." We're in the midst of another rural renaissance (the last one being the back-to-the-land movement that occurred in the 1970s) and it has produced some good reads.
