Announcing new State of the Library website
Libraries are under siege, and communities across the country are being forced to cut budgets, reduce library services and close library locations. JCPL is facing some budget challenges of its own for 2011 and beyond. To keep our stakeholders informed about these challenges, we're launching a new "State of the Library" section on our website. Watch for the debut in early September.

Jefferson County Public Library Closed Aug. 26
All Jefferson County Public Library locations will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 26 for a staff in-service day. Library employees will use the day to discuss plans for 2011 and beyond. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we plan for future programs and services. Normal library hours will resume on Friday, Aug. 27.

"Dine to Donate" for Jefferson County Library Foundation at Abrusci's Italian Restaurant
Plan a night out with family or friends and help raise money for the Jeffco Library Foundation. Visit Abrusci's Italian Restaurant for lunch or dinner between Sunday, Sept.12 and Thursday, Sept. 16 and 15 percent of the total cost of your meal (before tax) will go to the Library Foundation! Check out more information about this delicious opportunity to help out the Library!

Love Libraries? Join the JCPL Speakers' Bureau!
We're looking for volunteers who are passionate about the Library, who would also be willing to speak about JCPL to community groups. We'll provide training in public speaking, presentation materials and lots of friendly camaraderie. All you have to do is bring your love of libraries and show up! Remember, the more people who volunteer, the fewer presentations each volunteer has to give! We'll be kicking off the new and improved Speakers' Bureau in September. If you'd like to volunteer, please contact Pat Thomas at 303-275-6167 or via e-mail at pat.thomas@jeffcolibrary.org.

Dewey Rediscovered – The 200s: Religion and Other Taboo Topics
By Joyce Deming, Information Services Librarian, Golden Library
A reader e-mailed recently to remind me that back in November of 2009, I promised to write columns about each of the 10 Dewey Decimal categories. I wrote two columns, then stopped at the 200s – the category reserved for religion. Remember what your mother always told you? “Don't discuss religion and politics in public.” So, with apologies to mothers everywhere, we'll take up the topic of religion this month.
